marc_ian Great record. Catchy, anxious, well produced jangly power pop/“college radio” songs. Plus a top notch version of Muckraker. Plus Hand of Fate, a surprising mainstream rocker. (Plus A Pretty Picture, which leans towards cabaret.). Standing up to repeat listens. Favorite track: You Be You.

about

The Rhythm Methodists started after the end of The Bell System in 1987. When the opportunity to record a few songs came up in the summer of 1988, Claude and I recruited our friend Kerry Miller on drums and proceeded to record the first three songs on this collection in Ron Sutfin's garage/studio in Hamden, CT. Within a year, Kerry had been offered free studio time at a recording school in Bridgeport, CT. There, along with Nevard contributing backing vocals, we recorded two songs. Unfortunately, a control room error erased the lead guitar. (I can assure you it was awesome.)

Later in 1989, Claude and I moved to Indianapolis, IN and did not return to the recording studio until 2002, when we made our recording of a Furors song for the "Let's Get Furious" tribute CD. We had been playing with our old CT friend Joe Guidone through the late 1990's in Columbus, OH. Phil Kitchel worked with Claude and was well versed in my work with RFTT.

A couple of years later, a bandmate of Phil's, Noah Butler, helped us record this Dave Davies song for a compilation CD produced by the Kinks Preservation Society. Phil and I played all the instruments and Holly Butler added the wonderful soaring backing vocal!

Then came the return of OG Rhythm Methodist, Kerry Miller! Kerry moved to Indianapolis a few years ago and has since rejoined the fold. We recorded this Rolling Stones song and had the long-distance assistance of former Saucer keyboardist Malcolm Doak on the piano!
